In compiling this history of France, let us first of all stress that it will be brief. What we hope to present is but a framework, highlighting the different epochs and periods, and the influences that have played a part in the history of France and by extension, that of the world.
By design, it will remain but a skeleton in the hope that the reader finds areas of interest that intice one to flesh out the picture.
For each period we will try to recommend some books for further reading of French History and where possible websites that will expand on what we've put down.
We are drawing from many sources for this survey of French History and will link to external material where helpful.
We hope to employ due diligence in crediting sources along the way and make no claims for originality in the material that we present.

- Napoleon Bonaparte to the Restoration
- From the Restoration to the Collapse of the Third Republic
- The Second World War To the Present
These accounts of this part of world history understandably make no claims as to being any more than a partial view of a vast canvas. If they spark in the reader a curiousity to delve deeper, then their purpose will be fulfilled.
