Daily marketing is still very much the common rule in Paris and the local street market is where many people do their shopping for the freshest foods.

These "roving markets" are set up in squares and parking strips that are simply commandeered for marketing day.

The merchants take pride in their market stands which is easily seen in the colorful displays of fruits, vegetables, cheeses and wines.

There are some 57 marché volants, roving markets, that move from neighborhood to neighborhood on scheduled days.

This is a wonderful way to see an everyday slice of Parisian life and to sample the many flavors of Paris.

During the summer months, these markets are an excellent place for putting together a fine picnic lunch to enjoy in one of the many Paris Gardens.
