The Tower of Montparnasse is the tallest building in Paris, measuring at 290 meters (690 feet). It is 32 meters wide. The tallest structure in Paris is the Eiffel Tower, at 318 meters tall.
As the business center of La Defense is located outside of the Paris city limits, the Montparnasse Tower stands as the only skyscraper within Paris city limits.
It is equiped with the fastest elevator in Europe, traveling from the ground to the 56th floor in just under 38 seconds.
On the 56th floor is a restuaurant, a café, gift shops and a theater presenting movies of Paris taken from the air.
Two stories above is the outside viewing terrace affording 360 degree vistas. On a clear day you can see nearly 25 miles. Quite the site for those who enjoy being above it all.
At the time of its completion, in 1973, it was the tallest building in Europe.
Hours for the Tower are 9:30am-11:30pm.
The ticket prices for ascending to the Observation Terrace are 8.50 euros for adults, 7.50 euros for students between the ages of 14-18 and 5.80 euros for children under 14 years old.
For more information go to the Montparnasse Tower website.
